As temperatures hit -10, Primary 1 wrapped up warm and stepped out to explore the playground.  Because of the snow and ice we have been unable to go out to play at playtime and lunchtime.  We spoke about the risks of walking on the playground and how to keep safe.  We waited until the big boys and girls were busy in afternoon lessons and we went outside.  We had the whole school grounds to ourselves.  We took the camera outside and enjoyed looking for interesting things to photograph.  We saw ice that had started to melt into puddles, grit that made little circle patterns in the snow and we even followed the vehicle and bird tracks that we found.  We took such great photos Mrs Nicholson finished off by taking a whole class photo outside so we could remember this day when the snow melts away.  Mrs Guthrie spied us in the school garden from her window and came out to join us.  Most of the plants had died off but we're sure they'll grow again in Spring time.  We're going to keep an eye on them to make sure they do.  Look at what we saw outdoors.

Primary 1 performed the nativity story this year for all our parents and community.  They kicked off each of the two performances of the School Christmas Show with "Whoops-A-Daisy Angel".  They were true stars and very professional.  Take a look at us waiting to go on stage before the first performance.

Primary 1 used their number skills when making Christmas decorations for the class recently.  Each pupil made a set of 10 rings which we later joined together to hang from the class ceiling.  We found it a bit tricky at first but we helped each other and got there in the end.  We took our rings home along with all our other Christmas makes on the last day of school.  Here are a few snapshots of our handiwork.

Primary 1 held a very special day of festivities to celebrate St. Andrew's Day in our Homecoming Year.  Some of our buddies helped paint saltires on our cheeks during playtime, we wore tartan ties, hats, skirts, tops and even kilts.  We recited our Scot's poem and sang our song to the rest of the school during assembly.  We will be sending some photos of our celebrations to our friends in Wales to let them see our tartan and flags.

We had a great day exploring Braehead.  After meeting and interviewing the staff of Sainsbury's, we split into 5 groups and went exploring.  We were detectives and went to find information, armed with cameras and video cameras.  We searched the shops looking for numbers, letters/words, shop equipment, Christmas/seasonal goods and shapes.  We have brought back lots of ideas and have started to plan our own role play area.  We have lots more photos to add but here are the ones off the first camera.  We hope you like them.

Halloween Fun 2009

We had great fun at our first Halloween school party.  We danced, sang and ate lots of Halloween food.  Rebecca's Papa even baked us a spooky halloween cake with black plastic spiders all over it.  We all agreed it was very yummy.  Have a look at the whole school blog to see the rest of our photos.  Let us know what you think about them.

Primary 1 started planning their activities for their new International Education project which is due to roll out next term.  The boys and girls decided that they would like their own mannequins for our clothes shop which we will eventually have in class.  As you can see they have made a good start and worked well together in small teams.  We have lots more exciting ideas for our project.

Earlier in the term, our teachers checked to see how we were doing with our numbers. We have been using them in lots of games and activities in the class. We all had a different number mat and had to lay out towers or lines with the right number of items to match the number written on the mat. Here are some of our class with our number mats. We also read lots of numbers out to our teachers to show we could recognise them. One of our favourite activities was putting our number cards into order when the teacher muddled them up. Once we had them in order, when a partner turned one of our cards face down, we could tell them which one was missing. Our teachers think we're magic!

P1 Hold First Their First Video Conference

The boys and girls of P1 held their first video conference today with the P1 class in Auchenlodment Primary School.  We introduced ourselves then played a phonics game.  One class mimed the action for a sound and the other class watched and guessed the sound, then we swapped over and back again.  We are all very good at our sounds and guessed them all right.  Then we spoke about our favourite class books.  We said goodbye but we'll meet again soon as we had such fun.  We're going to "write" about it tomorrow.

Early Days

Our new Primary 1 pupils are settling in well. Their buddies are working hard to support them and they have quickly adapted to their school routine. Here is a group photo taken on their first day at school. Keep checking back here to see what they get up to.
